The latest initiative of SZKA: we want to create an online intellectual portal for those born in Odorheiu Secuiesc, who do not live here anymore but still are attached to this place, its culture and community. We put together an online questionnaire to find out the descendants’ opinions.
Here’s a brief summary of the feedback:
Most of them have left their hometown because of job opportunities and better financial conditions, but there are a large number of people who have chosen to do so because of the further education. Respondents who are volunteering in their community at their current location are mostly interested in sporting events or cultural programs. Many are leaders and members of the local Hungarian clubs. They appreciate the artistic and cultural life of Odorhei, as well as the local sports and recreational activities. These people list into the middle/average category the education, health, public security and the community events. The worst is the appreciation of the public institutions and environmental ambitions.
Most of the respondents have closer connection with education, environmental protection and social issues. They believe that they would be able to connect with the community much better through networking and knowledge transfer. They all confirmed that it would be absolutely helpful to have an online platform where they could stay connected and be up-to-date with their hometown community.
“Yes, I would find it very useful. For example, I would like to see ongoing events in the city and surrounding settlements. I would also read a “pride wall”, gathering the results of those born in Odorhei, whom we can all be proud of.”
“It is important to create a good relationship with the descendants of Odorhei and re-engage them in different events. I often donate for different purposes when I know it goes for a good cause.”
